Implement a function that calculates the sum of all elements in an integer array. Return 0 for null or empty arrays.
Examples:
Input: nums = [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]
Output: 15
Explanation: 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + 5 = 15
Input: nums = [-1, -2, 10]
Output: 7
Explanation: -1 + (-2) + 10 = 7
